Last week, Joe Klein and I interviewed Mark Tercek, the former CEO of The Nature Conservancy, about earth’s climate — its condition and what can be done to improve it. It’s a very informative discussion, entirely due to Mark’s encyclopedic knowledge of the subject matter.
We urge you to subscribe to Mark’s Substack newsletter, The Instigator, which looks at climate issues near and far. It’s free.

Episode #19. An interview with Mark Tercek.
Disappointed that Mark, like so many other advocates, can’t describe what “victory” looks like and his means (electric grid, reduced fossil fuels, etc) ARE the end.
He hedged when asked what 2050 is like if had his initiatives implemented, but it’s key for activists to be explicit what their ideal end state should look like.
If April 22, 2100 is a couple degrees cooler and there’s 5% less wildfire for the small small price of…everything he wants, is that a trade off most would make?
Being vague about the impact climate change has on our lives (not just nature) and what “victory” is will be to the detriment of their cause.
