Joe and I met in Key West for a top-secret, off-site ‘Night Owls’ strategy session. You’ll see the results in the coming weeks and months.
In Episode #15, we couldn’t avoid talking about former President Trump’s woes, unfortunately. But we moved on quickly to Larry Summers’ recent NBER research paper (which is convincing), the never-ending mystery of President Biden’s failure to address the immigration crisis, Hal Malchow, James Carville, Al Hunt and BYD, a well-made Chinese EV that retails for ~$10,000, which would be roughly $30,000 less than a comparable Tesla and would make car ownership much more affordable for “average” Americans.

Coming Attractions:
On Wednesday, Joe and I will be interviewing Nicole Perlroth, author of “This is How They Tell Me The World Ends.” Here is what Steve Levy had to say about Ms. Perlroth’s book:
Usually, books like this are praised by saying that they read like a screenplay or a novel. Nicole Perlroth's is better: her sensitivity to both technical issues and human behavior give this book an authenticity that makes its message--that cybersecurity issues threaten our privacy, our economy, and maybe our lives--even scarier.
We’ll be asking her about “zero days,” advanced cyber-weaponry, cyber-war, and the likelihood that the 2024 election will be hacked.
Two weeks after that, we’ll be interviewing Jane Perlez, former Beijing Bureau Chief for The New York Times. She’ll give us a preview of her upcoming 8-part podcast series, “Face Off: U.S. vs. China”. We’ll ask her a lot of questions about China. I have no doubt it will be a fascinating discussion.
Just FYI: ‘Night Owls’ episodes take 2-3 days to turn around, since Mano handles every aspect of the production by himself. Generally speaking, we record on Wednesday to post on Saturday. Sometimes, like today, it takes a bit longer.
