The UVA Center for Politics is a terrific resource for U.S. political news and analysis. Few others are as good. If you’re interested in American politics, its website is one you will want to bookmark in advance of the 2024 election campaign(s).
Earlier this week, the Center posted a clear and concise brief on Issue 1, a statewide ballot measure that, roughly speaking, serves as a referendum on the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade. The state in question is Ohio. Voters there will decide whether to “install” (my word) Roe into the their state’s Constitution or not.
Issue 1 is likely to pass, and will likely do so by a wide margin. According to a recent poll, here’s who supports its passage:
89% of Democrats
39% of Republicans
51% of independents
65% of parents
54% of gun owners
37% of evangelicals support Issue 1
These are not voters who seem likely to change their minds in the next ten days.
