The Republican Party exists, in part, to look after the interests of small and medium-sized banks. Those banks have been and remain both a core “constituency” of the GOP and an embedded source of financial support for GOP candidates at the federal, state and local levels.
It looks like some number of those banks are going to need a bailout.
