1. If you ask senior officials at the Central Intelligence Agency or The Department of Energy (loose nukes division) or the State Department or the Department of Defense what keeps them awake at night, many, if not most of them will say “Pakistan.” The reasons are many; unstable government, dysfunctional politics, wretched economy, vast poverty, brutal weather (one-third of Pakistan was under water last August), twelve (not a typo) active terrorist organizations, some supported by Afghanistan’s Taliban, never-ending border disputes with India, and, most alarming, its nuclear weapons program. All that and the fact that Pakistan isn’t really a nation. It’s a collection of tribes. Loyalty is to the tribe, not the state.
